Bring on the heat! Join Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary on a mission to raise $25,000 needed to cover our July and August operating costs, and we are going all out to ensure our horses (and the humans they serve) continue to have their needs met during our most challenging time of the year. With your help, we know we can reach our goal!

 

This campaign involves a number of opportunities to participate and includes a perks package for donors and an all-new gift program. Read on to learn more!

Where will my donation go?

We have broken down our greatest needs for the summer based on our biggest spending categories from last year:

For convenience, we have rounded the top categories to indicate where donations to the Heat of Summer campaign will go:

 

35% – Program and Administrative Expenses (‘employees’ in chart)

30% – Medical Care and Farrier Care

20% – Food

15% – Facility Upkeep and Hardware

 

Just out of curiosity, why is the employee & labor category so high?

Overhead is a necessary component of a successful, sustainable nonprofit organization. Four employees work long hours to provide a number of behind-the-scenes services for the Tierra Madre herd that volunteers cannot, including:
 
 

– volunteer recruitment, training, & management

– barn oversight & management (of both two-leggeds & four)

– administrative work (receipts, mailings, thank yous, etc.)

– donor development

– grant seeking

– social media & website

– fundraising & marketing

– event planning & coordination

– board of directors development

– program development & management

– and much more!

 

 

What’s this about a perks package?

To show our gratitude for our donors during this time of year, we are offering a few tokens of appreciation to campaign participants on four different levels:

 

WALK [$50 or more]: a 4×6 picture of a member of the Tierra Madre herd plus their biography.

TROT [$100 or more]: a 4×6 picture of a member of the Tierra Madre herd plus their biography; a coupon for a FREE private tour of Tierra Madre; and 10% off four tickets for our benefit fundraiser on October 12, 2018.

LOPE [$200 or more]: a 4×6 picture of a member of the Tierra Madre herd plus their biography; a coupon for a FREE private tour of Tierra Madre; 15% off four tickets for our benefit fundraiser on October 12, 2018; and a one-of-a-kind painting done by one of our horses.

GALLOP [$500 or more]: a 4×6 picture of a member of the Tierra Madre herd plus their biography; a coupon for a FREE private tour of Tierra Madre; 20% off four tickets for our benefit fundraiser on October 12, 2018 plus two complimentary tickets; a one-of-a-kind painting done by one of our horses; and a sponsorship plaque with the donor’s name on it next to the stall of his/her choice.

 
All donors, no matter what amount is donated, will receive a handwritten thank you postcard 3-5 weeks after their donation. We appreciate each and every member of the family!
 
 
Can I send funds for one specific item that you need?
Yes! We have a new gift program that allows you to purchase an item or service we constantly need for our horses. These purchases come with a certificate, which can be presented as a gift to a loved one or hung on your wall as a reminder of the horses you have helped! Below are just some of the options:
 
– One meal of hay for one horse: $1
– One day’s worth of meals for one horse: $5
– One month’s worth of meals for one horse: $125
– One squeeze of alfalfa hay (lasts three weeks): $1,000
– One year’s worth of meals for one horse: $1,500
– One bale of hay (feeds 13 meals): $20
– One bag of grain: $10
– One bag of bran: $15
– One bag of sweet feed: $10
– One bottle of fly spray: $20
– One dumpster haul off (good for three weeks): $325
– One farrier trim: $50
– One Gastrogard syringe – $35
– One dental teeth float – $150
– One trim and special shoes for a laminitic horse – $200
– One Prascend pill box (160ct, about one month’s supply) – $500
 
To get your certificate for your item, please contact us directly at info.tmhs@gmail.com. We will happily email your certificate 1-2 weeks after the time of your donation, or we will be glad to send a hard copy to you, too!
 
 
This is great! So, how do I get started?
To participate in the campaign, go to our donate page. You’ll see the following screen:

Next, click the box that says “I would like to designate this donation to a specific fund.” Select “HEAT OF SUMMER CAMPAIGN” as shown in the screenshot below:

Proceed with filling out the rest of the form. Please be sure to include your email for your tax receipt which is automatically sent to you as well as your address, so we can send you your tokens of appreciation as well as your thank you!
 
 
What happens if you reach $25,000?
Why, we celebrate by throwing an ice cream social for the participants, of course! If we reach our goal, we will throw an epic ice cream social for all donors and their families at Tierra Madre on Friday, September 14th from 6-8pm.
